We have been working on reducing bandwith and server load on GIS systems. We know that current internet-based GIS relies heavily on centralised server which has a lot of drawbacks.In recent years, Peer-to-Peer (simply P2P) and Web services are two of hot research topics in network computing and appear as two extremes of distributed computing paradigm.

By adopting a decentralized network-based style, P2P technology can improve scalability/reliability, enhance the overall reliability and fault-tolerance, increase autonomy and enable ad-hoc communication and collaboration.By combining Web services and P2P technologies into GIS, we aim to add more flexibility and autonomy to GIS Web services systems, and alleviate to some degree the inherent limitations of centralised systems.

We used webRTC technology to create unique content delivery network that is cheaper and faster than existing solutions. This technology enabled us to distribute GIS data tiles between the peers on both 2D and 3D GIS systems.



It was so exciting to see that how this technology enabled to reduce bandwith and see faster site responses. İt is a Lightweight pure Javascript api can be integrate to any website easily without requiring users to install anything.This means that it works without browser plugins and we were so excited about the results of our beta tests.

How it works

Peermesh Server handles site visitors traffic smoothly. GIS tiles and objects will be quickly and cost effectively delivered by peers and it will reduce the server load. In the mean time more peers means more hosted content. If peers are slow and Peermesh server is inaccessible, maps and site will load normally and peermesh will handle errors.
